* Initial Load: this is a file that loads with the page, and is present in the event that the auto-display panel fails to load. It is suggested that this be a static image the Auto-Display.
Note: Please check your individual publisher specifications to assure compliance.
Banner (Main Creative)
- The Banner is a light load that loads with the page, and is not where the bulk of the content resides. This can be a GIF, JPEG, or Flash SWF.
- The banner should contain a clearly displayed call to action indicating "RollOver Here" or "Mouse over Here to see more".
- Most publishers have frame rate, looping and time restrictions for the banner. As a lowest common denominator we recommend: 18fps, and all animation should stop after 15seconds. Please review the site defined specifications to ensure compliance.
Flash is supported for:
- Microsoft Windows Platform: IE 5.0 – 7.0x
- MAC OS X: Safari 1.0 - 2.0.x, Camino 0.7 - 1.0.x
- Across all platforms: Mozilla 1.0 - 1.3, 1.5 - 1.8.x (not 1.4), Firefox 0.7 - 2.0.x, Netscape 4.5 - 4.8x, 6.2, 7.0, 7.2, 8.0, 8.1 (not 7.1)
Mouse-Over Hot-Spot Sizes
This is the hot-spot area on a banner that causes a panel to display.
Large-sized Units
- Each hot-spot may have up to a maximum of 4000 pixels (height x width of hot-spot). Total maximum area of banner attributed to mouse-over tabs cannot exceed one-third (33%) of the total pixels.
Medium-sized Units
- Each hot-spot may have up to a maximum of 2500 pixels (height x width of hot-spot). Total maximum area of banner attributed to mouse-over tabs cannot exceed one-third (33%) of the total pixels.
Small-sized Units
- Each hot-spot may have up to a maximum of 1700 pixels (height x width of hot-spot). Total maximum area of banner attributed to mouse-over tabs cannot exceed one-half (50%) of the total pixels.
For horizontal banners, the hot-spots cannot span the entire width of the banner; and for skyscrapers, the hot-spots cannot span the entire height of the banner.
Flash Panels:
The initial load size of the panel can be anywhere from 40-60k (per panel) depending on the publisher. Pointroll has no limitations on this size, and some publishers may allow more then this.
- After the initial load of the panel, additional content may be loaded, however only on user interaction. Many publishers have restrictions on how many additional sub-files may be loaded, and the k-weight of those loads. Consult your site defined specifications to ensure compliance.
- You are allowed a total of 8 user-initiated panels per ad (not including an automatically displaying panel).
- Flash Version, Width, and Height attributes are required to create your panel.
- All links should launch a new browser and must be a valid URL.
- All panels should have a Close button displayed for ease of usability.
HTML Panels:
In addition to a flash panel, you may also create your panel via HTML. Please consult a Rich Media Support Engineer for further details.
Tracking
PointRoll must be able to track all clicks within the banner and all clicks and activities within the panels. For code to track these events, please see your Pointroll Rich Media Support engineer, or email richmediasupport@pointroll.com.
Audio/Video
Should only be in the panel. Video may play automatically when the panel is expanded, however sound must be user initiated. At a bare minimum, a Play/Pause and a Mute/Unmute button is required for video, and a Mute/Unmute button for audio. Most publishers have restrictions for looping and the length of the video or audio in the ad unit. Please consult the site defined specifications to ensure compliance. For more information consult our Video Specs
Collection of Personal Data
Collection of user Personally Identifiable Information is subject to PointRoll approval and may be returned for edits. If you wish to collect personal information within advertisements, those ad units will need to:
- 1) Clearly identify the organization.
- 2) Provide a direct link to the organization's privacy policy, adjacent to the submit button.
- 3) Clearly identify the purpose for collecting the information.
For example:
"Personal information in this advertisement is collected by [advertiser], and is not collected or used by PointRoll in any way. Please read the Privacy Policy [link to advertiser's privacy policy]."
Default Images
When the user's browser can't handle a PointRoll ad, a default banner must be served. This will be either a JPEG or a GIF. No SWF's may be used for the default. This banner should not have any 'Roll Over' messaging since it is a general 'Click here' banner. As a Lowest Common Denominator, we recommend:
15-20k.
